Charities benefit from Rik’s Captains day

After many eventless months, this years Captains Day was a great success giving the members of Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club the opportunity to have a fun day of golf, in great company with a few libations along the way. Held on Saturday 24th July the event was a stableford team and individual ‘yellow ball’ competition with a twist. Members could double their score with the yellow ball and pop a balloon to signal they would replay a bad shot without penalty. A refreshment tent at the 9th hole certainly added to the enjoyment with many bottles of beer and Prosecco being popped.

The winning team was Keith Fletcher, Bob Bruton, Alan Puddephatt and Ed Perot, the winning men’s individual was Alan Puddephatt and the winning lady was Marilyn Carter. There were addition prizes for the runners up and for nearest the pin won by Dan Simmonds and Andy Shepard.

The real winners on the day were the clubs chosen charities; the Chesham Food Bank and Bucks MIND who will benefit at the end of the year with the £1,353 raised. Most of the monies raised were courtesy of generous four-ball vouchers donated by local golf clubs. Rik Rankin, the men’s Captain, was hugely grateful for the fantastic contributions from our neighboring clubs and Rik did a fantastic job of canvassing local clubs for the vouchers.

Rik said “the amount raised will go a long way to helping those local people who have suffered financial and mental hardship during the pandemic, and the members should be very proud of their contributions to the charities”. Irene Crook, Lady Captain summed up the day perfectly “a great fun day, involving all sections of the club working and playing together for two great causes”.

Thank you everyone for your participation and making this a day to remember.
